3D printed mini box with wooden spinning top - KT SC 12 Pistachio and Sycamore
Colour: Pistachio and Sycamore
Material: PLA (matte) with Sycamore
Size: Approx H: 8.2 cm x 6.5 cm
Weight: Approx 50g
I am so happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nick Vorstermans of Studio Critical :
We met in Nick’s studio in Manchester to discuss our first collaboration. The results are stunning with these exquisitely hand-turned wooden lids and spinning tops, a beautiful addition to my 3d printed vases and bases.
Each design begins with a pencil sketch followed by a digital 3D surface printed in my studio. I use biodegradable PLA which is short for Polylactic Acid, a thermoplastic polymer derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch, potato starch, or sugar cane. Nick’s elegant additions in hand-turned wood add an interesting juxtaposition of materials. Nick’s materials are mostly sourced from naturally fallen trees in and around Manchester.
The nature of the 3d print and hand-turned processes make each piece unique with striations and marks adding individuality.
Due to the biodegradable nature of the 3d print materials, the objects are not waterproof. Please clean both wood and PLA with a dry cloth.
Branding: Each piece has a KT and Studio Critical : label.
Gift packaging: With a gift card included the object comes in a recyclable folding carton with shredded wood filling and a branded sticker.
Postal Packaging: Recyclable corrugated kraft outer carton with kraft paper wrapped to protect the object and gift packaging.
Postage: Twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays via Royal Mail second class signed for.
